A new report from the Food and Drug Administration warns that a man in Arizona may be suffering a severe case of a rare form of blindness in his eyes.
The report by the FDA said that men suffering from the eye diseases most commonly known as corneal ulcers, have an increased risk of blindness.
The report, which was published inTheJournal of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, said in a note to doctors and patients that an eye condition that affects the cornea could be the cause.
"The eye problem is very rare," Dr. Steve Gill, director of the at the National Eye Institute, said in the note to doctors. "There is no specific treatment for corneal ulcers, which are the most commonly treated eye disease. The majority of patients will have some type of corneal ulcer. If they do have a type of eye problem they may be at a risk of having blindness and even death."
The agency said that the condition is extremely rare. It could also be a direct result of blindness.
It says it is impossible for an eye condition to be the cause for a blindness or blindness-related blindness.
